"It's Rainin' Men--Hallelujah....."...and more

I'm reminded of that disco song from the early 80's by the WeatherGirls to begin this newsletter. And yes, I was a fairly decent disco queen in those days, in case you were wondering. Now that you have that little visual, let's get down to the business of skin, shall we?

YonKa has just launched their exclusive Men's Line of facial products, skin care regiment and specialized treatment facials. Since men's skin is generally more dense than a woman's it's especially important to treat it differently than normal protocol. This is exciting not only for my gentlemen clients but also for you ladies who want the men in your life to maintain healthy and youthful skin. And gone are the days when men viewed facial treatments as something "foofy" in which only ladies indulged. Good skin care has nothing to do with gender. And as much as I dislike the term "Metro-Sexual", it truly applies in this situation.
The two components of healthy skin are the Treatment Facials (that's my part) and the home care (that's the guy's part). There are three specific facials, in which I have received new training:
1. "Skin Fitness" which is a deeply cleansing facial. This is a great facial for teenage guys or really any guy with acne problems.
2. "Power Moist" which is restorative and addresses the first signs of aging.
3. "Age-Defense" which is firming and energizing.
The Product line is designed to purify, restore and rejuvenate. And good news guys, no girly scents with these products! As with all of YonKa's products it's just wonderfully aromatic botanicals.
The product line is quite simple. There are only 8 products:
1. Foam Gel Cleanser 2. Barber Shave 3. Foam Scrub 4. Mask 5. Lotion YK (a toner) 6. Age-Defense Moisturizer 7. Nutri-Moist Moisturizer and 8. Under Eye Gel.
So ladies, give him a nudge, a hint or simply deliver him to me for one of these fabulous Men's Facials. Here's a little extra incentive: If your guy, boyfriend, husband, son or Dad comes in for an appointment, I am offering you a complimentary Eye and Lip treatment for valued at $30.00 to say thanks. And if he's anything like my husband and son, he'll add skincare to the budget for both of you! And remember, Father's Day is coming up June 15! What a great idea!

So here we are moving towards spring. And it's not too early to start thinking about Mother's Day. This year it is Sunday, May 11. Did you know that Mother's Day--or a version of it-- is celebrated, on different days throughout the year, by 133 countries around the world? 61 countries celebrate the holiday on the same day as the United States. Mother's Day in the U.S.A. is modeled loosely on a similar holiday in Britain. However, when it was imported by social activist Julia Ward Howe, after the Civil War, it was intended as a call to unite women against the war. Some of the early Mother's Day activities were meetings of mother's whose sons had fought or died on opposite sides of the Civil War. In 1870, Ms. Howe wrote the Mother's Day Proclamation as a call for peace and disarmament, but she failed in her attempt to get formal recognition of a 'Mother's Day for Peace'. In 1905, a woman named Anna Marie Jarvis began to devote her life to establishing Mother's Day as a national and international holiday in honor of her own mother. So thanks Julia and Anna Marie! You're my kind of gals! And here's somthing interesting. In 2007, consumers spent an average of $140 each on Mother's Day. That adds up to almost $16 billion in total. And the amount spent for personal services, such as trips to the Spa? Almost $3 billion! So, in case you weren't reading between the lines.....come in and pick up a gift certificate or some luscious skin care products for your Mom! If my own queen, Mrs. Norma Taylor didn't live in Arkansas, she'd be getting weekly facials! And then come Father's Day, don't forget the new Men's Skin Care line. Hmmmm, I wonder if that would be a way to entice my dad into a visit? Stay tuned, I'll let you know!

And now a word or two about waxing. I'm seeing more and more clients, women as well as men, for whom waxing is simply a must-do part of their lives. But I can't stress strongly enough that proper home care after waxing is essential. Here are the three steps you need to do for the best results when waxing areas that are prone to ingrown hairs:
1. Immediately after waxing we need to diminish redness and irritation. I use YonKa's Creme 11 in-spa and encourage you to purchase this product for home use. A second choice is a pure aloe vera-based product.
2. Manually exfoliate the area daily in the shower. Besides lifting off dead skin cells, it loosens the hair follicle, preventing ingrowns and helping to alleviate the discomfort of waxing the next time around.
3. Once a day, apply a bump-preventing product that cools and heals. I carry a product called "Get the Bump Outta Here" which many clients love. What we're trying to accomplish is just one more way to exfoliate the skin between waxes.
The areas most prone to ingrowns are bikini, brazilian, underarms and backs.
4. Scheduling your appointments every 3-4 weeks depending on your hair growth rate is a must. It's very important for the hair folicle itself for waxing to occur when the hair is a little less than 1/4 inch. Waxing longer hair can be more traumatic on the skin.

A fantastic massage therapist has joined our office. Her name is Jennifer Bogle. Not only does she do all types of massage, including Thai massage, she also does private yoga sessions. I've had a "Jennifer" massage and it was incredible! She and I are putting together a package special for the month of May. It will be a 1 hour massage plus a Spa facial and the cost will be $100.00. Hmmmmm.....2 hours of bliss for $100.00? We will be sending out cards for this special within the next few weeks with more details.

I hope you all finished your taxes relatively painlessly and are now expecting a gigantic refund check!

My new website is currently under construction and hopefully will be up and running within the next month.

Don't forget that I am accepting Visa, Master Card, Discovery and Debit cards. Since I donate a monthly fee and service charge on all transactions back to my dear friends at the bank, it would be greatly appreciated if credit card use can be designated to charges over $20.00.
