"It's Rainin' Men--Hallelujah....."...and more

I'm reminded of that disco song from the early 80's by the WeatherGirls to begin this newsletter. And yes, I was a fairly decent disco queen in those days, in case you were wondering. Now that you have that little visual, let's get down to the business of skin, shall we?

YonKa has just launched their exclusive Men's Line of facial products, skin care regiment and specialized treatment facials. Since men's skin is generally more dense than a woman's it's especially important to treat it differently than normal protocol. This is exciting not only for my gentlemen clients but also for you ladies who want the men in your life to maintain healthy and youthful skin. And gone are the days when men viewed facial treatments as something "foofy" in which only ladies indulged. Good skin care has nothing to do with gender. And as much as I dislike the term "Metro-Sexual", it truly applies in this situation.
The two components of healthy skin are the Treatment Facials (that's my part) and the home care (that's the guy's part). There are three specific facials, in which I have received new training:
1. "Skin Fitness" which is a deeply cleansing facial. This is a great facial for teenage guys or really any guy with acne problems.
2. "Power Moist" which is restorative and addresses the first signs of aging.
3. "Age-Defense" which is firming and energizing.
The Product line is designed to purify, restore and rejuvenate. And good news guys, no girly scents with these products! As with all of YonKa's products it's just wonderfully aromatic botanicals.
The product line is quite simple. There are only 8 products:
1. Foam Gel Cleanser 2. Barber Shave 3. Foam Scrub 4. Mask 5. Lotion YK (a toner) 6. Age-Defense Moisturizer 7. Nutri-Moist Moisturizer and 8. Under Eye Gel.
So ladies, give him a nudge, a hint or simply deliver him to me for one of these fabulous Men's Facials. Here's a little extra incentive: If your guy, boyfriend, husband, son or Dad comes in for an appointment, I am offering you a complimentary Eye and Lip treatment for valued at $30.00 to say thanks. And if he's anything like my husband and son, he'll add skincare to the budget for both of you! And remember, Father's Day is coming up June 15! What a great idea!
For more information on the new Men's Line, please go to www.yonkaformen.com.

So here we are moving towards spring. And it's not too early to start thinking about Mother's Day. This year it is Sunday, May 11. Did you know that Mother's Day--or a version of it-- is celebrated, on different days throughout the year, by 133 countries around the world? 61 countries celebrate the holiday on the same day as the United States. Mother's Day in the U.S.A. is modeled loosely on a similar holiday in Britain. However, when it was imported by social activist Julia Ward Howe, after the Civil War, it was intended as a call to unite women against the war. Some of the early Mother's Day activities were meetings of mother's whose sons had fought or died on opposite sides of the Civil War. In 1870, Ms. Howe wrote the Mother's Day Proclamation as a call for peace and disarmament, but she failed in her attempt to get formal recognition of a 'Mother's Day for Peace'. In 1905, a woman named Anna Marie Jarvis began to devote her life to establishing Mother's Day as a national and international holiday in honor of her own mother. So thanks Julia and Anna Marie! You're my kind of gals! And here's somthing interesting. In 2007, consumers spent an average of $140 each on Mother's Day. That adds up to almost $16 billion in total. And the amount spent for personal services, such as trips to the Spa? Almost $3 billion! So, in case you weren't reading between the lines.....come in and pick up a gift certificate or some luscious skin care products for your Mom! If my own queen, Mrs. Norma Taylor didn't live in Arkansas, she'd be getting weekly facials! And then come Father's Day, don't forget the new Men's Skin Care line. Hmmmm, I wonder if that would be a way to entice my dad into a visit? Stay tuned, I'll let you know!

And now a word or two about waxing. I'm seeing more and more clients, women as well as men, for whom waxing is simply a must-do part of their lives. But I can't stress strongly enough that proper home care after waxing is essential. Here are the three steps you need to do for the best results when waxing areas that are prone to ingrown hairs:
1. Immediately after waxing we need to diminish redness and irritation. I use YonKa's Creme 11 in-spa and encourage you to purchase this product for home use. A second choice is a pure aloe vera-based product.
2. Manually exfoliate the area daily in the shower. Besides lifting off dead skin cells, it loosens the hair follicle, preventing ingrowns and helping to alleviate the discomfort of waxing the next time around.
3. Once a day, apply a bump-preventing product that cools and heals. I carry a product called "Get the Bump Outta Here" which many clients love. What we're trying to accomplish is just one more way to exfoliate the skin between waxes.
The areas most prone to ingrowns are bikini, brazilian, underarms and backs.
4. Scheduling your appointments every 3-4 weeks depending on your hair growth rate is a must. It's very important for the hair folicle itself for waxing to occur when the hair is a little less than 1/4 inch. Waxing longer hair can be more traumatic on the skin.

PRODUCTS AND PUMPKINS AND PEELS. OH MY!

Dear Clients,

Happy Autumn! I hope your summer was wonderful, fun and memorable! Mine certainly was! As I mentioned in my summer newsletter, my fantabulously romantic husband, Eric, raised the bar on 50th birthday gifts by taking me to Europe for the month of August. We spent time in Tuscany, Florence and the Italian Riviera before flying to Barcelona, Spain to set off on a 2 week Mediterranean Cruise that included Nice, France; Dubrovnik, Croatia; Corfu, Greece and Rome, Venice and Naples. The surprises just kept coming thanks to Therese and Michael, Susan and Scott and cousins Tracy and Dale who joined us for parts of the vacation. Extravagant??? Yes! Am I worth it? Well, apparently my "spice" thinks so and that's what counts! It was the trip of a lifetime! Eric says he won't be doing anything so outrageous for my 100th, but since he has another 50 years to plan and save $, I think he should at least try! Now let's get down to the business of skin care, shall we?
~~~~~~~~~~~PRODUCTS~~~~~~~~~~~
I have some new items I want to share with you as well as some important information to help your precious skin replenish from summer and prepare for winter. The first new product is a brand new mask that YonKa has released called Masque N 1. It is one of the most intense moisture/time released masks for dehydrated skin of any kind. It's efficacy is 54% after 1 hour, 89% after 4 hours and 96% after 8 hours. Here's a something great that you can do with it: Cleanse and moisturize your face at night as usual. Then cover your skin with a very thin layer of the Mask N 1 and go to sleep. In the morning, rinse it off and you won't believe how incredibly nourished your skin will feel! For more information on this luscious product go to: http://www.yonka.com/. I am using it in treatments and a number of you have purchased it for homecare, so far, to rave reviews! The cost is $52.00
~Our second new product is called "Prolongateur De Bronzage". Why YonKa chose this time of year to introduce it, I haven't a clue. But I suppose if you're off to someplace tropical, it will come in handy. This is a tan prolonging product for the face and body that illuminates the skin with warm tones and tasteful gold sparkle glitter, which gives a radiant golden glow. It's quite wonderful and uses green, white and red teas which are powerful antioxidents. This product retails for $36.00.
~The third new product is (GASP!) actually not a YonKa product. But, I like it, it has a lot of great botanicals, vitamins, antioxidents and skin quenchers and promotes the acceleration of cell renewal. It is a moisturizing/age-intervention/anti-oxident cream called Dermal C. It uses two sources of stabilized Vitamin C (amla fruit & grapefruit), two sources of Vitamin A (retinyl palmitate & carrot root) and Vitamin E. Bend Skin CO. is the only authorized distributor of this product in Central Oregon. A 2 oz jar retails for $28.00.
My last new item is actually not skin care related unless you count making your skin glow when this item is worn. Local jewelry designer and client, Cynthia Tenney, has a collection of genuine crystal and gemstone earrings on display in our treatment room. I have worn Cynthia's designs since meeting her 3 years ago. and have always gotten compliments. They are beautiful, unique and will enhance any style. They are priced at $10.00 per pair which means you'll want to get a few pairs for yourself as well as for gifts. Pick them up for the ladies on your Christmas list!
~~~~~~~~~PUMPKINS~~~~~~~~~~~~

It's that time of year, kids! Goblins and Ghosts and Pumpkins abound. I can't tell you what to do with the ghosts or goblins but if you have an extra pumpkin or two handy...have I got a recipe for you! Pumpkin is rich in enzymes and antioxidents that are similar to a gentle alpha-hydroxy. It's loaded with Betacarotine and Vitamin E, 2 very important agents in age-intervention. And cinnamon is gently stimulating and antibacterial. Here's the recipe for a delectible scrub:

1/2 cup cooked or canned pumpkin, pureed
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon pumpkin seed oil*
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
* sunflower or olive oil can be substituted

1. mix ingredients in a bowl
2. Stand in a tub or shower stall and use a damp washcloth to scoop up some of the mixture.
Apply to your body, starting with your feet and working your way up, but avoiding your face.
Scrub gently using a circular motion
3. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.
This scrub smells divine and makes the skin feel smooth as silk!

~~~~~~~~~~~~PEELS~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Everyone from Oprah to Jennifer Aniston talks about PEELS. And you probably say, "Oh! Note to self, call Debra to schedule a peel." And that would make you one smart cookie! So here's the scoop on peels. Simply put, they are a means of retexturizing the skin by chemically disolving dead skin cells, reaching into the epidermis and inflaming the skin to produce collagen. Peels are effective in treating hyperpigmentation, fine wrinkles and acne scarring. Peels are the "Controlled Burn" of skin care treatments because an acid is used. Now, we aren't talking battery acid. I don't want you to get a vision of sizzling skin! There are 3 types; superficial, medium and deep. DEEP PEELS are done by a licensed physician, under sedation, attached to a cardiac monitor. The ideal patient is one with severe sun damage. The skin is raw for 2-3 weeks but dramatic improvement will be accomplished. MEDIUM PEELS are great for softening deep lines and erasing brown spots. The first 10 days after a medium peel the skin transforms from slightly pink to dark to peeling like having a fairly significant sunburn. SUPERFICIAL PEELS can benefit everyone because it removes the most stubborn dead skin cells to yield skin that is smoother and more evenly pigmented. Clients with minimal imperfections or acne will benefit greatly and the recovery time is similar to what you would expect after a mild sunburn. The difference between the superficial and medium peels is the concentration of the glycolic, lactic, salicylic or trichloroacetic acids. Deep peels are usually done with phenol. In most facials that I do, a micro(VERY superficial)-peel is integrated into the treatment. I have two other specific peel treatments. The first is the "Alpha-Vital" facial which is done in a series of 3-4 treatments. It incorporates organically sourced alpha and beta hydroxies from fruit and plant acids with an algae, green tea and fruit based mask. The second is done with a 3% lactic acid and also incorporates the algae mask. Please know that if you are serious about having a peel and truly resurfacing your skin, you must be willing to commit to a series of treatments and use the correct products for your home skin care regiment. I am trained and licensed in both superficial and medium peels and will be happy to address your specific needs at your next appointment.
**Here's a helpful hint for broken capillaries! Cut a grape in half and rub the pulp against the affected area. Grapes contain bioflavins which in therapeutic doses is known to restore blood vessel integrity.
**If you're anything like me, this is the time of year when I get inspired to clean up and throw out stuff I've accumulated throughout the year. I am much more productive when my friends from Peace Of Mind come to keep me focused and on task. They even take my unwanted things to a charity of my choice and bring me the reciept or they take it to the dump. Julie, Wendy, Donna and the other wonderful Organization Consultants of Peace of Mind will work their magic for you too! Give Julie a call at 541-390-9873.
**Congratulations to Skye and Andy Kutansky on the arrival of Maren, their new baby girl. Proud grandparents are Cynthia and Alan Tenney.
Believe it or not, the holidays are not too far away. You can save time and energy by doing all of your holiday shopping at Bend Skin CO. Gotta "hard-to-buy-for" guy? He will love a Men's Facial treatment. He won't get one for himself, but he'll love you for getting it for him! How about a pre-teen or teenager? It is NEVER too early to get a proper skin care routine started! And then there's that woman on your list who already has everything. A Spa facial will be just the indulgence she's looking for. Are you in a service-oriented business with your own clients? Do you show them your appreciation with gifts? A Spa Facial will truly delight them and let them know how important they are to you.
As always friends, thank you for your coninued support. I know there are a number of Aestheticians in town and I'm honored that you've chosen me to provide your skin care services.
Summer News
Dear Clients,
Well it doesn't seem possible but summer is almost over! I hope you've all stayed cool with the scorching days we've had this July. And I KNOW you've all been diligent about wearing sunscreen, right? We'll talk more about that later in the news letter. Lots of things are happening so let's get right to it, shall we?
*: I have found my new space and I'm very excited for you to see it! I am now sharing a lovely cottage at 235 SE Davis Avenue with one of Central Oregon's most well respected Acupuncturists, Wendy Daniels, L.Ac., MTCM. Wendy is fabulous and I look forward to having you meet her sometime when you're in. Her practice is called Ancient Traditions. It's a very convenient location. Just take 3rd St. south. Cross over Franklin, go under the train trestle and take the first right after the underpass. The cottage is burnt orange and has a few Chinese lanterns on the porch and is the second on the left. Or if you're coming from the Parkway, take the Colorado St. exit, turn left onto Colorado, go over the train tracks and it's the second left, third house on the right. My phone number will remain 541-390-3338. I'll be sending out announcements with a map and I'm planning an Open House sometime this fall. So, those of you who thought your next treatment was going to be on a bench in Drake Park, well, sorry to disappoint you. However, I promise you'll love the new space and we won't be disturbing the geese!
**: Most of you know that this past July 9th I turned 50. I know, I know, it IS hard to believe that I've been around a half a century! Fortunately I don't feel a day over 49! Having a 9 year old helps keep me young! Anyway, Eric, my wonderful husband, has outdone himself with my birthday gift and is taking me to Italy for the month of August. I tell you this not just to brag about my thoughtful and romantic 'spice', but to let you know that I will not be seeing any clients in August. So if you think you'll be needing any products before the end of August, please call me and come in before August 1st. And while I'll miss you all terribly, I---AM---OUTTA-----HERE August 1st ~~~ August 28th! I'm looking forward to comparring travel stories with Katie R. and Kirsten M. who have also been to Italy recently. CIAO! And speaking of world travels, Kathy and Ellie Moore will be spending the next 5 months in Australia. Best wishes to you both for Ellie's surgery and Kathy and Tom's new baby due in October!
***: With the new space, I am adding a few new treatments that I know you'll love. The first is an anti-fatigue leg treatment called 'Jambes Tonique', which provides amazing relief after a tiring day, summer heat, etc. This is a 45 minute, very successful treatment for painful, heavy, tired legs. Cost for this treatment is $75.00. The second addition to the menu is for the hands called Beaute' Des Mains. This is a 30 minute , total renewal program which uses the 3 in 1 facial standard for the hands with splendid visible results. Cost is $40.00. The third new menu item is the Hydralessence Back Facial. The treatment time is 45 minutes for this detoxifying/hydrating experience with the results of not only silky skin but intense stress relief for the body, mind and spirit. This is an especially wonderful treatment if you suffer from back acne and it's great for guys who get regular back waxes. Cost is $80.00. Make an appointment to experience all three of these luxurious treatments! (After August 28th!)
****: As you know, the cost of providing services as well as the cost of living continues to rise. I have not increased my facial treatment fees or most waxing fees since June of 2005. The new menu, which will include the 3 new treatments, will reflect the new fees and will be approximately 3-7 % per service. I sincerely value each and everyone of my clients and appreciate the opportunity to provide you with the very best skin care possible while remaining below average cost of the majority of my colleagues. Thank you for your understanding.
*****: And now...........A few words about Sun Protection~~I have put together a "Sun Smart" Guide which is available at the Spa. If you'd like one e-mailed to you, just let me know and I'll be happy to do that for you. A couple of important things to remember is this: 90% of aging is caused by the sun. Clouds do not screen you from the sun's harmful rays. Langerhans cells are part of the body's defense system against fungus, viruses, bacteria and precancerous cells and are destroyed by the sun. More Americans are diagnosed with skin cancer every year than all other types of cancer combined. Skin cancer is preventable and curable, if caught early.
~~~~Did you know that YonKa makes a fabulous serum called "Halo 70" ($39) that is a natural tint? Just add a few drops to your own moisturizer for a shade that's perfect for you. The results are extraordinary with the benefits of YonKa's rich botanicals without the heavy pore-clogging qualities of foundation.
~~~~If you want that all-over sun-kissed glow, try YonKa's "Auto-Bronzant" ($34) which will provide color as well as all the daily nutrients your skin requires.
Need a break from the summer heat with a little liquid refreshment? Check out the newly remodeled JC's on Franklin and the Wild Fire Brew!
Do you need a new nail salon? I've been seeing Christine Parker and she's awesome!! Give her a call: 541-382-7767.
I hope the rest of your summer is safe and happy. I'll send some "Italy" pictures when we get back! I'll look forward to seeing you all soon and please schedule an appointment so you can see my new place!
Fondly,
Debra
MOTHER'S DAY and more
Mother's Day is Sunday May 13!
Do you want a spectacular gift that will show your mom how much you love and appreciate her this year? Or will you stop at Safeway on the 12th for a bouquet of flowers? Are you a mom and want to give someone a gift idea for you? Look no further than Bend Skin CO.! How about pampering Mom with a Spa Facial? Remember how incredibly soft her skin was when you were a little kid, snuggling against her cheek? Well, motherhood kind of takes a toll all over a body and mom's face (while still beautiful) would really appreciate some TLC! Is your Mom a gardener? How about a moisturizing hand treatment that includes exfoliation, deep moisturizing, warm paraffin mask and hand massage. Or maybe she'd like a unique gift basket with some of the divine YonKa skin care products or bath crystals or make-up brushes or any of the other luxurious gift items we offer. You know she's the best mom in the entire world (2nd only to Mrs. Norma Taylor, my own Queen) so treat her to the very best!
_________________________________________________________
Attention Waxing Clients!
Have I got something for you! A new product has just arrived called
"No Scream Cream". Need I say more? This topical anesthetic cream can really take the OUCH out of Brazillian, Bikini and Underarm waxing as well as other areas. I have used it myself and am pleased with the results, as are a few clients who have also tried it. Applied 30-45 minutes before waxing, it temporarily prevents and relieves discomfort of the waxing treatment. This 1 ounce tube is now $15.00. A companion product is also available called
"Get the Bump Outta Here" which significantly prevents ingrown hairs, skin irritation and bumps assiciated with hair removal. A 4 ounce roll-on is now $18.00. With the product names, the company obviously has a sense of humor as well as a great product. So the next time you're in, pick up the NSCream and GTBOH Liquid and maybe your next waxing treatment will actually be fun! (yeah, ok, FUN's probably stretching it a little.)
__________________________________________________________
MAKE-UP BRUSHES
The new make-up brushes have arrived. We offer two shapes, an all-over facial brush and a bronzer. These are great brushes! They are available for $7.00 each and there is also a 5 piece brush kit for $20.00. Do you want your make-up brushes to last longer? Do you clean your brushes periodically? NO?! Well, if not, your make-up is being applied with facial oils picked up from the last time you used the brush. Can you say "ICK"? We are now proudly offering a brush cleaner from a Bend-Based company. You can support the local economy and take care of your brushes at the same time. I have used "Brush-Off" for the past 3 years for my professional treatment brushes and personal make-up brushes and I highly recommend this to you to preserve and extend the life of your make-up brushes. A 2 ounce spray bottle, which will last a very long time, retails for $9.00.
___________________________________________________________
LOCATION! LOCATION! LOCATION!
Once again, we are going to be changing locations. Our landlord has decided that he'd like to enlarge our space for a bigger business. A few things are in the works right now so have no fear that I might resort to providing your facial or waxing treatments on a bench in Drake park. Although it would be quite entertaining to the Canada Geese! I'll keep you informed and should have something definative in the next few weeks.
___________________________________________________________
ACB
Are you a member of The Athletic Club of Bend? Would you find it convenient to have aesthetic services there? If so, please let me here from you! I'm working on the ACB to begin offering facial and waxing services and your positive reinforcement will help greatly.
Spring News
Dear Clients,
Happy Spring! I'm seeing some crocus and daffodils in my yard so it must be true! I'm also hearing my husband grumbling something about taxes under his breath so that usually means the end of winter as well.
I want to tell you about some new things happening at the Spa. First of all, our space is now totally Bend Skin Co. Tiffany and "Chit Chat" have relocated and we have the place to ourselves. With more room, we are adding some retail items that we're very excited about. Currently, we are offering a great sunglass line and a selection of one-of-a-kind, gorgeous beaded evening handbags. In the next few weeks we'll be adding top-of-the-line make-up brushes, brush cleaners, bronzers, bath items and more. Also new are custom gift baskets. These gift baskets will include Spa goodies, pampering pieces, skin care products, and more. They're perfect for any gentleman or lady on your gift list and can fit any budget. We will continue to retail the incredible YonKa skin care collection, gift certificates and treatment packages.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

SPRING CLEANING ISN'T JUST FOR HOUSES!
This is the time of year when we hear people talk about spring cleaning their houses or a spring clean-up for their yards. (I've heard this - just not in my house) It's a great concept! The warmer weather provides the motivation and we feel so good after we're done! So how about a little spring pore cleansing? Get rid of the old, dead skin cells that accumulate during the winter, deep cleanse your pores and revitalize your complexion with a selection from our menu of Spa Facial Treatments. Give your skin a healthy glow as you jump into spring. You deserve it! And it's much more fun than housework or lawn care!

Bend Skin Co. December e-letter

* >WINTERIZE YOUR SKIN< *

This is the time of year when your skin really starts to feel neglected. And it will let you know in many subtle ways like itching, cracking, flaking and chapping. You don't need to go through the winter season trying to stay comfortable in your own skin! So I've put together a survival guide that should help.
Winter is harshest on your skin because of the extreme cold, wind and dry air inside and outside. The cold temperatures deplete the skin's lipid layer which is responsible for maintaining hydration. Dry air and wind drain your skin of the moisture it's trying so hard to hold onto. Our first instincts are usually hot baths and slathering ourselves with something like whale blubber. NO!NO!NO! First, water heated significantly higher than body temperature actually dries out the skin. And buttering yourself like a piece of toast with products containing lanolin, mineral oil and even petroleum jelly may form a barrier between you and the elements but will clog pores. Skin in general and hands and lips in particular need extra TLC from now until the daffodils bloom.

1. =Exfoliation= Don't forget this step in your skin care regimen! If dead skin cells collect on the surface, toxins and perspiration can't be eliminated. (ICK!)
Also if you have a lot of dead skin build-up, facial treatments and moisturizers can't penetrate effectively. But don't use a scrub with abrasive particles that can cause micro-tears in the skin. Products like 'Yon Ka's' Gommage 303 & 305 are gentle enough to use every day because they contain citrus extracts and white nettle which loosen and disolve dead skin cells. Your skin then feels polished and not scoured like like an old skillet.
2. =Boosters= Professional boosters and serums penetrate deeply into the skin. They contain glycolipids to retain and bind moisture and hyaluronic acid which holds up to 1000 times it's own weight in moisture. 'Yon Ka' serum is rich and vitamin-supercharged. Dermal 1,2&3 serums hydrate and boost. These products can be used alone or added to any moisturizer. Also in the winter, apply your moisturizer more frequently.
3. =Seal it!= Paraffin masks on the face, hands or any other body part will make even the grumpiest skin cell rejoice. It's large molecular size prevents the paraffin from penetrating the skin and simply seals in products and prevents oxygenation that evaporates the products. The heat from the paraffin improves circulation and will make your skin feel like it's wrapped in a snuggly warm blanket.
4. ='Silence of the Lambs"= Did you ever have a sweater that you loved but hated to wear because it felt scratchy? It was probably wool which contains lanolin. Lanolin is a great weather-proofer for sheep, but highly allergic to many people. Better to wear things made of acrylic fiber or cashmere.
5. =Not for Skiiers Only= Winter sun may look and feel feeble but that's what Frosty the Snowman thought and look what happened to him! You still need SPF protection. Your eye area is most vulnerable so pay extra attention there.
'Yon Ka' has 4 different SPF products as well as an after-sun hydration lotion. Did you know that the sun's reflective powers are 17% on the sand but 80% on the snow?
6. =Humidity is our Friend= You don't have to re-create the rain forests of Costa Rica but investing in a home vaporizer for the bedroom and office makes a huge difference in how your body survives winter. Mucus membranes and nasal passages get crispy from breathing super dry air. Even a small indoor fountain will introduce moisture into the air. And the sound of water will calm and soothe the spirit as well.
9. =HYDRATE= Stay away from water-based moisturizers which can actually freeze on the skin. 'Yon Ka's' "LeBaum" which literally melts into the skin, shields against the environment and will soothe and repair the lipid barrier. Products containing Shea Butter keep skin supple.
10. ="How Dry I Am"= Alcohol is bad news both inside and out. Applied topically, it's extremely drying. And the holidays are the season for eggnog and champagne, but remember that cocktails deplete the skin's moisture. Ditto for that"wake-me-up/how much did I drink last night?" morning after coffee which is a diuretic. Skin must be moisturized from the inside out so DRINK YOUR WATER! A great way to stay on tract with moisture during the day is to mist yourself (like a Boston Fern) with light, non-aerosol spritzers like 'Yon Ka' Lotions PS and PG.
11. =KISS*KISS= Don't forget the kissers! Lips produce no protective sebum like other skin. Because they're regularly exposed to the elements they are particularly hard hit by winter weather. But like other skin, lips need to be exfoliated as well as moisturized. You can do this by just rubbing your lips with a soft cloth or brush. You can use a mild cleanser, vasoline or lemon juice. Apply lip balm immediately after. Mistletoe is not meant for parched, prune-like puckers.
12. =TO THE SPA!= A sure way to maintain beautiful skin this winter is to have regular facial treatments. The concentrated attention your skin receives is one of the most nurturing and healthiest things you can do. This also lets us work together to decide on the right products and homecare to keep your skin hydrated and soft throughout the season.

It's that time of the year. You know what I mean; back to school, store the deck furniture, rake the leaves, plant some mums and exfoliate the summer skin. OOPS! Did you forget that last one? Well it's not too late and the mums can wait!

At the beginning of each new season it's important to devote a little extra 'TLC' to your skin. Now's the time to rid your skin of the last vestages of the prior season and prepare it for the new one. This can be done most effectively with Yon Ka's "Alpha Vital" Facial, a skin resurfacing treatment using aha and bha from fruit and plant extracts. Some dead skin cells just hang on too long to your skin's surface and are greatly responsible for signs of premature aging. They also give the skin a dull, tired appearance. The Alpha Vital Facial produces the immediate results of new skin softness and youth effect.

This facial treatment has 2 levels of exfoliation and includes a freshly prepared "peel-off" mask of algae, green tea and pilewort. It is personalized for normal, oily, dry, sensitive or mature skin types. Optimum results are obtained with 3-4 treatments that are 7-10 days apart and using Fruitilia for day-time, Alpha Exfoliator for night-time and Alpha-Contour Eye Gel as part of your daily routine. The number of treatments needed is determined in the first session.

This treatment is approximately 70 minutes. The cost is $95.00 per treatment. If the treatments are purchased in the recommended 3 or 4 sessions, the total cost will be reduced by 10%:
3 treatments: $285.00 - 10%/$28.50 = $266.50
4 treatments: $380.00 - 10%/$38.00 = $342.00
So take care of yourself and book your appointment today!

And just because the weather's cooling off, don't slack off on your water consumption! Remember the recommended daily hydration formula is to take 1/2 of your body weight and make that number into the total ounces of water you need every day.

Please don't hesitate to call or e-mail me if you have any questions about the Alpha Vital, other treatments or skin care issues.
